Detox Your Wardrobe in 5 Steps

With a new year upon us, now is the perfect time to detox your wardrobe to ensure effortless style throughout 2022. In this week’s blog post, we’re excited to share 5 questions you should ask yourself when clearing out your wardrobe to help make the process as painless and quick as possible.

Before you get started, make sure you give yourself at least a couple of hours and commit to the job at hand. From sorting through to cleaning, organising and finalising the process of a wardrobe detox can be timely but is great to do to refresh your wardrobe.

Now, let’s get onto those all-important questions…

#1 When was the last time I wore this piece?
You’ll know if something deserves to stay in your wardrobe depending on how much you wear it. If you find yourself always reaching for this piece, it’s a definite one to keep. However, if you can’t remember the last time you wore the piece, that is a definite sign it’s time to say goodbye.

#2 Does this piece still fit me?
Now, this is the question you have to ask yourself. There is no point hanging onto a piece if it doesn’t fit you. Do not have the mindset of keeping the piece if you lose a bit of weight or ‘just in case’, this is not a positive mindset to have – have a wardrobe full of things you love, fit you well and flatter your figure.

#3 How does this piece make me feel?
Perhaps our most favourite question when it comes to conducting a wardrobe detox. How your clothes make you feel is equally, if not more, important than how you look in them. Choosing pieces that make you feel utterly fabulous and keeping these in your wardrobe is the most important factor to keep in mind when organising your wardrobe.

#4 Will someone I know suit this piece?
When you have decided on what will be staying and what will be going, it’s time to look at the pile of items that will no longer be staying in your wardrobe. Rather than heading straight to the bin, look to alternative new homes for your unwanted pieces. Perhaps a relative or friend has always complimented a piece of yours you no longer want and giving it to them would be a great idea. Charity shops are also another great option to give your clothes a new lease of life. If the pieces aren’t of great quality, consider finding your nearest recycling point, to help protect our environment and limit landfills.

#5 Can I upcycle this piece?
Can you turn a pair of jeans into a pair of shorts for the summer? Or perhaps you’re handy with a sewing machine and can take on bigger projects? Making the piece work for you is essential in a wardrobe clear out, resulting in a complete wardrobe full of pieces that you absolutely love!
